On 17 September 2024, around a hundred ¹û¶³´«Ã½ staff and students gathered in Senaatszaal for the ‘Everything you wanted to know about Open Science at ¹û¶³´«Ã½â€™ event. The purpose of this event was to raise the profile of and create more involvement in Open Science across campus. There was much interaction throughout the day, facilitated by Rudy van Beurden, who encouraged everyone present to share their opinions on the key topics of Open Science as contained within the .
The day was kicked-off by Executive Board President, Robert Jan Smits who touched upon a number of pressing reasons why Open Science is increasingly becoming an essential cog in the academic wheel. This includes societal demand for transparency, international collaboration and huge growth in research, its outputs and data.
Hans de Jonge, Director of Open Science NL, presented the goals of and the importance of accessible science for all. Subsequent interactive breakout sessions covered Open and FAIR data (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) and how we should aim for Open data to be FAIR in order to maximize its impact. The next interactive session covered Recognition and Rewards – essentially how Open Science can be rewarded through the recruitment and promotions processes. The exact way in which this will happen is still up for discussion, but Human Resources are very open to input from the academic community.
Feedback on the day has been very positive, with request that the momentum created by this event is maintained and built upon; and this is exactly what the Open Science Team, with the help of an active and engaged Open Science community, intend to do.
Presentations and posters from the day can be found .
