Embracing collaboration: the ethical and psychological impact of advanced technologies in warehouses
PhD researcher Ziagul Hosseini examined the ethical and psychological impact of advanced technologies such as autonomous robots and advanced sorting systems on the human work environment.

Advantages
Modern warehouses are increasingly deploying advanced technologies to increase efficiency. Examples include autonomous and collaborative robots, which help pick and sort goods, and advanced route planning systems that reduce lead times. These innovations bring significant benefits, such as faster deliveries and fewer disruptions in the logistics chain.
Downsides
However, integrating these technologies also has downsides. Employees may face increased workloads and a reduced sense of autonomy, which can lead to stress and reduced motivation. Organizations must therefore strike a balance between technological advances and the well-being of their employees.
Human-centered approach
Ziagul Hosseini's research shows that providing employees with autonomy is crucial to their well-being and performance. Through interviews, surveys and experiments, she gained insight into how employees interact with technologies in their work environment. A key component of her research was an experiment with 352 order pickers, examining the impact of workload and autonomy on boredom and performance. The results highlight the importance of a people-centered approach when implementing technologies in warehouses.
Efficiency and wellbeing
Hosseini advocates a balanced approach that ensures both efficiency and employee well-being.Her findings offer valuable insights for the future of warehouse management and the implementation of advanced technologies.
