Professor Barry Koren receives royal honor at ¹û¶³´«Ã½ farewell

A memorable occasion marked the farewell of Professor Barry Koren, as he received a Royal Decoration in recognition of his outstanding academic and societal contributions. During a special farewell event on campus, Koren was appointed Officer in the Order of Orange-Nassau, a prestigious honor presented by Robert Strijk, Deputy Mayor of Eindhoven.
The royal distinction celebrates Koren’s outstanding achievements in numerical fluid dynamics and scientific computing, areas that combine mathematics, physics, and computer science to solve complex physical and technical challenges.
Throughout his career, Professor Koren played a key role in both national and international research collaborations, contributing to advancements in aerospace, sustainable energy, and medical technology. His leadership in large scale research programs and his influence across multiple disciplines have left a lasting impact on science and engineering communities.

In addition to his research, Koren is recognized as an inspiring educator and mentor, a bridge builder between academia and industry, and a passionate advocate for science communication and talent development. His contributions include active involvement with the Royal Dutch Mathematical Society and public science outreach such as Klokhuis Vragendag, which engages young people with science in a creative and accessible way.
Although residing in Amsterdam, Koren received the honor in Eindhoven, reflecting his strong connection to ¹û¶³´«Ã½ and the region where his most significant contributions have been made. It is customary for the presentation of such honors to take place in the municipality where the recipient’s achievements have had the greatest impact.
The farewell celebration included a symposium focused on his field of expertise, attended by colleagues, collaborators, and former students.
