RESEARCH PROFILE
Cor Hurkens is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Eindhoven University of Technology (¹û¶³´«Ã½). His areas of expertise include operations research, software, algorithms and control systems. Cor’s research focuses on worst case analysis of all kinds of combinatorial algorithms, complexity of all kinds of combinatorial problems, solution methods based on polyhedral theory, and approximation methods based on local search. Cor is also involved in applied mathematical modeling, supervising industrial projects and writing papers on mathematical methods. In reviewing papers, Cor is eager to spot false arguments in research papers, and helpful to ameliorate colleagues’ papers, fixing the last details.
ACADEMIC BACKGROUND
Cor Hurkens obtained his PhD in Mathematics from Tilburg University and also holds an MSc in the same field from ¹û¶³´«Ã½. He received his PhD in 1989 and joined ¹û¶³´«Ã½ as an Assistant Professor in the same year. He was closely involved in the post graduate program Mathematics for Industry, and is now mostly involved in industrial projects as master project supervisor. His educational heart is in mathematical modeling throughout the whole mathematics curriculum.
