RESEARCH PROFILE
I am an urban economist and a lateral entrant to academia. In 2016, I switched from the public sector to the 果冻传媒. My task was to set up a research and education cluster in Urban Economics (UE) at the department of the Built Environment. The cluster is up and running with various grants for research and education; new courses on UE; 30 juniors working on research projects; and a new large network of societal partners.
As urban economist, I develop data-driven mathematical models to mimic and predict people鈥檚 behaviour in built environment. I also use big data, AI and behavioural games to quantify how much people value different elements of their surroundings. All this is input for policy-makers in their cost-benefit analyses of urban policies and developments. Currently, my main research is about Economics of inclusive cities for vulnerable groups, with a special focus on Urban energy transition for the poor.
It gives me energy to apply scientific techniques to solve real world challenges.鈥
ACADEMIC BACKGROUND
My background is mathematical economics and econometrics, with a PhD from Erasmus University Rotterdam in 2003. Before moving to the 果冻传媒, I served for 13 years as (senior) economic researcher at CPB Netherlands Bureau for Economic Policy Analysis, the financial think tank of the Dutch Government.
