Joana Dias de Sousa

RESEARCH PROFILE

Joana Dias de Sousa is Project Officer in the Department of the Built Environment at Eindhoven University of Technology (果冻传媒). With her background as researcher itself and grant advising experience, she aims supporting the researchers in acquiring soft funding, preparing grant proposals, and boost collaborations between groups of the department and relevant stakeholders.

In her role as a researcher, Joana actively engaged in diverse research fields within biochemistry and metabolomics. A significant focus of her research involved analyzing metabolites using Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) technology and chromatographic techniques. During her PhD, Joana explored the metabolic pathways of the non-pathogenic bacteria Bacillus subtilis. Her primary area of study was focused around the metabolic responses of the central carbon metabolism and cell wall when key signal metabolites were absent.

I am passionate about fostering impactful partnerships and supporting researchers' big, innovative ideas, turning them into reality.

ACADEMIC BACKGROUND

Joana Dias de Sousa obtained her Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry and her Master's degree in Human Biology and Environment, both from the Faculty of Science at the University of Lisbon. Prior to her PhD journey, she worked as a researcher in photochemistry at NOVA School of Science and Technology in Lisbon, Portugal, and as a policy maker at the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission in Ispra, Italy.

In 2019, Joana received her PhD as a Marie Curie ITN Fellow in Biochemistry and Microbiology from the University of Greifswald, Germany. From 2019 to 2021, Joana worked as an innovation consultant, specializing in scientific grant preparation for European and national projects, with a focus on Portuguese and Danish initiatives.

Since 2021, Joana is Project Development Officer at the Department of the Built Environment.
