Lukas Puts studied Embedded Systems and Electronics at the Avans Hogeschool in 鈥檚-Hertogenbosch, a project-based learning educational program focused on designing and manufacturing electronics for embedded systems. In 2020, he received his MSc degree (cum laude) in Photonic Integration at the Eindhoven University of Technology. During his master鈥檚 education, he completed an internship on the simulation and design of a concave corner mirror on integrated waveguides on the generic InP technology platform. In his graduation work, he designed anti-reflection subwavelength gratings on an InP membrane-on-silicon technology platform.

In March 2025, Lukas defended his Ph.D. thesis on photonic spiking neural networks. His work involved laser dynamics, laser modeling and design, photonic neural networks, and extensive optical lab measurements, and he has presented his work at internationally acclaimed conferences.
