RESEARCH PROFILE
Simon Eugster is an Associate Professor and Chair of Computational Dynamics in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Eindhoven University of Technology (果冻传媒). His research focuses on the development of mathematical models and computational methods to describe the dynamics of flexible multi-body systems with frictional contact.
Besides the computational analysis of nonlinear rods, he is particularly interested in non-smooth time-integration methods that can cope with frictional contact interactions between rigid and flexible bodies. The methodological research is cross-fertilized by applications in soft robotics, rockfall protection systems, and mechanical metamaterials.
Mechanics in a nutshell: Formalizing the obvious to predict the unexpected.
ACADEMIC BACKGROUND
Simon Eugster studied Mechanical Engineering at the ETH Zurich and received his BSc and MSc degrees in 2007 and 2009, respectively. For his PhD, he joined the Institute of Mechanical Systems at ETH Zurich, where he graduated in 2014. Between 2014 and 2024, he was appointed as Lecturer and Senior Lecturer at the University of Stuttgart, Germany. In 2018, he was a Visiting Scholar at the University of California, Berkeley, United States. In March 2024, Eugster joined Eindhoven University of Technology (果冻传媒) as Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Both his master's thesis and doctoral thesis were recognized with the ETH Medal.
