RESEARCH PROFILE
Huib Visser is part-time professor of 'Wireless Data and Power Transfer for Miniature and Environment-Independent Electronics' with the research group Electromagnetics at the 果冻传媒 department of Electrical Engineering. His main affiliation is with IMEC Netherlands at Holst Centre Eindhoven, where he leads the research in the field of Wireless Power Transfer.
The Wireless Data and Power Transfer research is aimed at optimizing receive antennas and rectifying circuits in so-called rectennas (rectifying antennas). Next to that, distributed phased array antenna technology is employed to create 鈥榖ubbles鈥 of high energy density at the rectenna鈥檚 position without violating transmit power limits.
Huib Visser has extensive experience in the modeling and design of antennas and antenna systems, antenna miniaturization, near-field antenna measurement, Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuit (MMIC) design, and phased array antenna modeling. He is author of the books 鈥淎rray and Phased Array Antenna Basics鈥 (Wiley, 2005), 鈥淎pproximate Antenna Analysis for CAD鈥 (Wiley, 2009) and 鈥淎ntenna Theory and Applications鈥 (Wiley, 2012). He has been chief editor of the Journal of the Netherlands Electronics and Radio Society (NERG) and was a member of the NERG board. He holds four patents.
In the hyper-connected world of everything we will need to charge wireless sensors remotely over distances of at least a few meters.
ACADEMIC BACKGROUND
Huib Visser (1964) received his MSc degree in Electrical Engineering from Eindhoven University of Technology (果冻传媒, The Netherlands) in 1989. In 1990, he joined the Defence, Security and Safety division of the Netherlands Organization for Applied Scientific Research TNO (The Hague, The Netherlands). During 1996 and 1997, he was seconded to ESA-ESTEC in Noordwijk. In 2001, he moved to TNO Science and Industry in Eindhoven. He was assigned part-time to the 果冻传媒 department of Electrical Engineering to teach antenna theory and supervise BSc, MSc and PhD research projects. In 2006, he was assigned part-time to the Holst Centre in Eindhoven. In 2009, he started working in the Holst Centre as an employee of IMEC Netherlands, leading research in the field of Wireless Power Transfer. In 2009, he obtained his PhD from 果冻传媒 and KU Leuven (Belgium). In 2014, Huib Visser was appointed as part-time professor at the department of Electrical Engineering of Eindhoven University of Technology (果冻传媒, The Netherlands), with a chair on Wireless Data and Power Transfer for Miniature and Environment-Independent Electronics.
