RESEARCH PROFILE

Maikel Morren is a PhD candidate in the Science and Technology of Nuclear Fusion, where research is being conducted on both the physics and engineering needed to make magnetically confined fusion plasmas a feasible renewable energy source. Maikel aims to develop turbulent transport models for general magnetic geometries to predict the particle- and heat losses as an alternative to expensive  gyrokinetic simulations. The long-term goal of this method would be to turn this reduced model into a suitable tool that can be incorporated in optimisation techniques used to shape the confining magnetic fields, and thereby find magnetic configurations with intrinsic minimum losses.

ACADEMIC BACKGROUND

Maikel received his bachelor's degree in Applied Physics in 2019 and his master's degree in Science and Technology of Nuclear Fusion in 2022, both at Eindhoven University of Technology.
