RESEARCH PROFILE

Ond艡ej Roko拧 is an Assistant Professor in the Mechanics of Materials section of the Department of Mechanical Engineering of Eindhoven University of Technology (果冻传媒). He is involved in teaching and research in the field of mechanics of materials. His areas of expertise include mathematical modelling, homogenization, computational mechanics, metamaterials, inelastic materials, quasicontinuum methods, molecular statics, digital image correlation, scanning electron microscopy, and stochastic structural dynamics.

His primary research interests are directed towards the understanding of physical phenomena propagating across scales in the realm of materials engineering. In particular, in identifying and describing the few important processes which usually emerge from smaller scale and which govern the overall behaviour of materials and structures at the engineering scale. Ond艡ej would like to use knowledge on these processes for the design of new materials that perform optimally under given engineering requirements.

Understanding of physical phenomena propagating across scales in the realm of materials engineering is key for designing new materials and structures that perform optimally under given engineering requirements.鈥

ACADEMIC BACKGROUND

Ond艡ej obtained his PhD in Civil Engineering from CTU in Prague in 2014. His advisors were J. M谩ca and P. Ku膷era, and his thesis entitled 鈥淒ynamic analysis of grandstands鈥 focused on stochastic modelling and lifetime predictions of grandstand structures subjected to random load. After his PhD, he held a postdoctoral position for several projects at CTU and 果冻传媒, focusing on development of integrated experimental-computational micromorphic homogenization scheme for elastomeric mechanical metamaterials, multiscale identification of micromechanical parameters in heterogeneous solids, development of variational concurrent multiscale methodology for dissipative materials with discrete microstructures, modelling and homogenization techniques for optimal design of modular mechanical metamaterials with applications in soft robotics, and on improved transient stochastic analysis of grandstands. During his posdtoctoral period, Ond艡ej was a visiting researcher at the Eindhoven University of Technology (果冻传媒, 2015), where he worked with R.H.J. Peerlings on adaptive approaches for quasicontinuum method, and at the University of Luxembourtg (uni.lux, 2016), where he worked with S.P.A. Bordas and L.A.A. Beex on extended formulations for the quasicontinuum method. Ond艡ej became an Assistant Professor at 果冻传媒 in 2020.
