RESEARCH PROFILE
Ravi Patel is a Doctoral candidate at the Elementary Processes in Gas Discharges Group in the Applied Physics Department and the Power and Flow Group in Mechanical Engineering Department of Eindhoven University of Technology (果冻传媒). He researches on plasma-assisted combustion. Almost 80 % of the world鈥檚 energy is produced from fossil fuel combustion even today. Increasing risk of global warming due to nasty emissions from fossil fuel combustion demands for cleaner combustion methods. Plasma has the potential to facilitate combustion in low-temperature conditions which makes it clean. In this regard, Ravi鈥檚 research focus is on non-equilibrium plasma applications for combustion enhancement. He works with optical diagnostics to investigate the coupling of non-equilibrium plasma chemistry with combustion chemistry.
I want to understand plasma so that it no longer only be used as an ignition source in combustion, but it can be optimized to stabilize clean combustion.
ACADEMIC BACKGROUND
Ravi Patel obtained his bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering at L. D. College of Engineering, India in 2015. Afterward, he received his master鈥檚 in Aerospace Engineering from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), India in 2018 with the major in Propulsion. His thesis concerned plasma-assisted ignition. Prior to starting his Ph.D. at 果冻传媒, Ravi worked as Research Assistant in the same department at the IISc. He contributed to the collaborative project on the experimental investigation of thermoacoustic instability in swirl stabilized combustion. In March 2019, he joined the Elementary Processes in Gas Discharges Group and Power & Flow group at 果冻传媒 as a Doctoral candidate.
