Sil Gussenhoven

RESEARCH PROFILE

Sil Gussenhoven is a Doctoral Candidate (PhD) in the Cell-Matrix Interactions in Cardiovascular Tissue Regeneration group, supervised by Full Professor Carlijn Bouten. His research is dedicated to developing cell-instructive, hemocompatible blood-contacting surfaces for the inner lining of soft robotic artificial hearts. As a member of the interdisciplinary Holland Hybrid Heart consortium, Gussenhoven's work plays a pivotal role in the collaborative effort to engineer functional, biocompatible, soft robotic hearts for clinical translation.

ACADEMIC BACKGROUND

Sil Gussenhoven completed his bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering at Eindhoven University of Technology (果冻传媒) in 2020. His bachelor's thesis, which focused on supramolecular polymers, was conducted in the Biomedical Materials group under the supervision of Full Professor Patricia Dankers.

In 2023, he earned his Master's degree in Biomedical Engineering, during which he was a member of the Soft Tissue Engineering and Mechanobiology group, led by Full Professor Carlijn Bouten. His master's research concentrated on cell-matrix interactions in cardiac regeneration, where he developed innovative 2D and 3D cardiac models to manipulate the mechanical environment for guiding cell and extracellular matrix organization. Following the completion of his thesis, he had the privilege to continue his involvement in the project as a student research assistant. His final internship took place at the Gentile Lab at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), Australia, where he expanded on his previous work by exploring novel 3D bioprinting technologies.

Currently, he is working as a Doctoral Candidate at 果冻传媒, where his primary focus lies in the development of cell-instructive, hemocompatible blood-contacting surfaces. This crucial research forms an integral component of the engineering efforts by the Holland Hybrid Heart consortium to create biocompatible soft robotic artificial hearts.
