Prof.dr.ir. Gerrit Kroesen was appointed full professor of Low Temperature Plasma Physics at the Department of Applied Physics and Science 果冻传媒 at Eindhoven University of Technology on May 1, 2000. He will deliver his valedictory lecture on Thursday May 8, 2025.
The title of the lecture
Physics of the organ
About the lecture
In this lecture, professor Kroesen will give an introduction to a topic which he is passionate about: the (physics of the) organ. Starting with fluid dynamics in organ pipes, he will briefly touch upon subjects like resonances, frequency spectra, harmonics and matrix control systems and he will conclude with the physics of reverb and acoustics. On the subject of resonances, he will make a crossover into plasma physics, demonstrating acoustical resonance in plasmas, and continue the plasma physics excursion with a highlight of his scientific career: plasma physics experiments in the International Space Station, carried out by the Dutch astronaut Andr茅 Kuipers. The entire lecture will be illustrated with live demonstrations.
