In this face-to-face session, Dr. Julia Costa and Dr. Maria Yarosh (START project team members from the University of Groningen) will invite you to explore resources created to help academics who teach first-year undergraduates support diverse students in transition:

  1. Awareness Raising Toolkit, to help you learn more about student transition to higher education and the impact higher education teachers have on student experience;
  2. Handbook with practical solutions for challenges those teaching 1st-year undergraduates most frequently face;
  3. Self-Reflection / Self-Assessment Tool that can help you reflect on your own teaching practice and identify your strength and points for further professional growth, and;
  4. Bridging the Inter-Sectoral Communication Gap report that highlights best practices from across Europe that could help educators, universities, and policymakers create a smoother transition for students.

Dr. Maria Yarosh will set the scene and briefly introduce each resource for you to see their scope, focus, and potential relevance. Dr. Julia Costa will share her own experience of using elements of START resources to support first-year undergraduates she works with even better.

You will be invited to compare and contrast your own experience with that of Julia, share your own effective solutions to better supporting first-year undergraduates in transition to higher education, and identify elements of START resources that can be of use to you in further improving your teaching practice.

This event is open to teachers and support staff; registration is free and can be done . Free lunch and drinks will be available.
