'I am porous. I am bold. I am a space-time traveling expert.'
Every morning, preparing our coffee, hot water flows through the porous coffee grounds facilitating molecular reactions across the coffee surface. The interplay between exposure time of the coffee to the water controlled by the flow dynamics directly linked to the structural and chemical properties of the grinded coffee crafts the flavor profile of our espresso we cherish so much.
This principle applies not only to many processes we encounter in our daily lives, but also to many technologies relevant for the energy transition, industrial production and environmental preservation. The multiscale operations in porous systems group investigates porous materials across length scales, putting equal emphasis on industrial relevance and fundamentals. Specific example include porous materials used in hydrogen generation and storage, carbon capture, storage and utilization, environmental remediation, filtration, catalysis.
