Dr. ir. Pieter Overdevest EngD is passionate about breaking down complex ideas and explaining them in simple, clear language that resonates with his audience. The moment a student realizes they understand a concept and can apply it in practice is incredibly rewarding for him. In addition to his commitment to educating students, Pieter values the collaborative and positive working environment at EAISI Academy.

Expertise

Pieter has extensive experience in applying his knowledge and expertise to numerous data and AI projects. He strongly believes in the power of collaboration and bringing together different expertises to achieve shared goals. Over the years, Pieter has developed a unique combination of skills in data science, AI, and strategic advisory work, drawn from both academic research and industry experience. 

His areas of expertise include data science capability development, global portfolio management and product architecture redesign, clinical operations and Quality Assurance, in-silico product design, product quality, product and specification development in FMCG. Having completed the EngD Data Science program at JADS, he is equipped with the skills to unlock value from data and apply AI in meaningful ways, whether in corporate settings or not-for-profit organizations. 

 

Biography

Pieter graduated with an MSc in Bioprocess Technology from Wageningen University, where he later earned his PhD in Bioseparation Technology in 2000. His doctoral work focused on separating (un)wanted molecules at an industrial scale. After completing his PhD, he spent 20 years working in R&D within the FMCG industry, notably with Unilever, where he led projects in product development, global portfolio management and product architecture redesign, data science, global clinical operations and QA. 

His passion for data science led him to further professionalize his career by completing the EngD program at JADS 2017-2019. This program, combined with key experiences and connections, enabled him to establish himself as both an independent consultant and a lecturer in the field of data and AI. 

Today, Pieter uses his diverse background in R&D, data science, and education to contribute positively to the data science community, aiming to make AI more accessible and widely applicable.
