I鈥檓 designing an AI based fault detection and diagnosis tool for detecting the low dT syndrome in cooling coils of air handling units.

Low dT syndrome is a phenomenon that occurs in most cooling coils present in the air handling units of commercial buildings. It can lead to an increase in the energy consumption of pumps and chillers and also a decrease in the comfort of building occupants. An AI-based fault detection and diagnosis tool can detect if low dT syndrome is present in the system and diagnose the main faults leading to this phenomenon, without much human interference.

I decided to do a PDEng in SBC because I wanted to work on a project where I could connect my interest in mechanical engineering and building services with artificial intelligence and data analytics while linking research and industry together. The program gives me the opportunity to connect with industry professionals, work on my project management skills and it ultimately prepares me for a better position in the industry.
